Miltown Malbay sits a short way inland from Spanish Point on the west Clare coast, with the fishing villages of Quilty and Doonbeg further down the shore. It’s best known nationally as the home of the Willie Clancy Summer School, the traditional Irish music festival named after the town’s own piper, but for the rest of the year it’s a working west Clare town: a wide main street of pubs and shopfronts, with the Atlantic never more than a couple of minutes’ walk away.
