Staying in Scarriff

A market town on the eastern shore of Lough Derg, at the heart of the East Clare Way.

Scarriff (Scairbh) is the main town of East Clare, sitting near where the River Graney meets Lough Derg, the wide lake stretch of the River Shannon shared by Clare, Tipperary and Galway. Scarriff Harbour is the focus of the town, a working and leisure harbour where you can watch boats come and go or set out on the lake yourself.

For a B&B guest, Scarriff makes a good base for lake life and hill walking without the crowds of the better-known Shannon towns. The East Clare Way, a looped 180km walking route through the Slieve Aughty Mountains and along the Shannon and Lough Derg, passes right through the area, and Killaloe and Mountshannon are both a short drive away for more of the lake.

The wider area has plenty for a longer stay too. Irish Seed Savers, Ireland’s largest organic seed farm and heritage orchard, is just outside the town, and the East Clare Heritage Centre and St Cronan’s Church, one of the oldest churches in continuous use in Ireland, are a few minutes away in Tuamgraney.

Booking Clareville House direct, and what the rating means

A real, assessed b&b

Clareville House holds a 4-star b&b rating under Fáilte Ireland's National Quality Assurance Framework, assessed against the bedrooms, bathrooms, breakfast and welcome rather than self-declared. It's an independent signal you can trust before you book, separate from any platform's own review score.

No fees, no middleman

Ring the owner, or use the contact details on this page, and arrange the stay with the house rather than through an app. No booking fee added to your bill and no commission taken from the owner, so the room rate you agree is the room rate you pay.

A better stay, direct

Owners answer the questions a booking platform never will: whether the room at the front is quieter, how early breakfast can be served, or where to park for a few days. Speaking to the house directly is how B&Bs in Ireland were booked for decades.
