Ferries to the Aran Islands

The Cliffs of Moher from the sea

A cliff-top path runs south from the village toward the Cliffs of Moher, one of the finest stretches of coastal walking in Ireland. Sections close from time to time for safety works, so check locally how far it is open before setting out.
Crab Island
The little island off the harbour mouth carries the ruin of an early 19th-century outpost and, offshore, one of Ireland’s most respected reef waves, a heavy right-hander strictly for expert surfers. Watching from the pier on a big winter swell is a spectacle in itself.
Getting to Doolin
Doolin is under an hour from Shannon Airport by car, via Ennis and Ennistymon, and Bus Éireann’s coastal route between Galway and Ennis stops in the village daily, calling at the Cliffs of Moher and Lahinch along the way.
