Staying in Fanore

A small Burren coastal village halfway between Ballyvaughan and Doolin, built around a Blue Flag beach that is one of the west coast’s best-known surfing spots.

Fanore sits on the R477 coast road in north Clare, in the heart of the UNESCO Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, with the grey limestone hills of the Burren rising inland and the Atlantic on the other side of the road. The Caher River, the only river that flows over the surface of the Burren’s limestone rather than disappearing underground, reaches the sea here.

For a B&B in Fanore, the beach is the reason to stop. Fanore Beach is a Blue Flag strand backed by dunes, popular with swimmers and walkers and well known among surfers, with a surf school running lessons through the summer season. It is also the starting point for the Black Head Loop, a scenic coastal walk of some 26km tracing the shoreline north.

The village itself is tiny, a scatter of houses, a pub and the beach car park, but its position on the Wild Atlantic Way puts Ballyvaughan, Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher all within easy striking distance.

Booking Orchid House direct, and what the rating means

A real, assessed b&b

Orchid House holds a 3-star b&b rating under Fáilte Ireland's National Quality Assurance Framework, assessed against the bedrooms, bathrooms, breakfast and welcome rather than self-declared. It's an independent signal you can trust before you book, separate from any platform's own review score.

No fees, no middleman

Ring the owner, or use the contact details on this page, and arrange the stay with the house rather than through an app. No booking fee added to your bill and no commission taken from the owner, so the room rate you agree is the room rate you pay.

A better stay, direct

Owners answer the questions a booking platform never will: whether the room at the front is quieter, how early breakfast can be served, or where to park for a few days. Speaking to the house directly is how B&Bs in Ireland were booked for decades.
