Ballylickey sits on the N71 midway between Bantry and Glengarriff, where the Ouvane River meets the sheltered waters of Bantry Bay. It’s a scattered rather than a nucleated village, more a handful of houses, gardens and a bridge than a main street, but its position is the whole point: the Sheep’s Head Way begins just south of here, and the Beara Way loops off to the west, so a B&B in Ballylickey works as a base for either peninsula without the drive that a stay in Cork city or even Bantry town would add.
The Ouvane and neighbouring Coomhola river are known for salmon and sea trout, so the village has a quiet following among anglers as well as walkers.
