Staying in Doneraile

A small Georgian estate town in North Cork, built to serve the Doneraile Court demesne and still shaped by it.

Doneraile grew up as an estate town around Doneraile Court, the Georgian house of the St Leger family that stands within Doneraile Park, four hundred acres of naturalistic parkland laid out in the style associated with Capability Brown. The house sits on the site of an earlier castle, and the walled park, now managed by the OPW and open to the public year round with free admission, is one of the most visited free attractions in County Cork.

The wider area also has a genuine literary connection: the poet Edmund Spenser held an estate at nearby Kilcolman, where he is believed to have written much of The Faerie Queene before the castle was burned during the Nine Years’ War in 1598. For a B&B stay, Doneraile suits anyone looking for a quiet North Cork base built around a walk in the park, a look at the Kilcolman ruins, and easy road access into Mallow or Cork city.

Kilcolman Castle

The ruined tower house a few kilometres from the town was the estate of the poet Edmund Spenser, who is believed to have written much of The Faerie Queene there before it was burned in 1598.

Booking Park South direct, and what the rating means

A real, assessed b&b

Park South holds a 4-star b&b rating under Fáilte Ireland's National Quality Assurance Framework, assessed against the bedrooms, bathrooms, breakfast and welcome rather than self-declared. It's an independent signal you can trust before you book, separate from any platform's own review score.

No fees, no middleman

Ring the owner, or use the contact details on this page, and arrange the stay with the house rather than through an app. No booking fee added to your bill and no commission taken from the owner, so the room rate you agree is the room rate you pay.

A better stay, direct

Owners answer the questions a booking platform never will: whether the room at the front is quieter, how early breakfast can be served, or where to park for a few days. Speaking to the house directly is how B&Bs in Ireland were booked for decades.
