Courtmacsherry sits on a sheltered inlet midway between the Old Head of Kinsale and the Seven Heads peninsula, its single street of houses looking out over a wooded estuary that keeps the village calm even when the open coast nearby is rough. Its lifeboat station, founded in 1825, is one of the oldest in Ireland, and its crews have a long record of rescues, most famously helping survivors of the Lusitania sinking in 1915.
