Donegal Castle
Built in 1474 as a fortress for the O’Donnell chieftains, then rebuilt as a Jacobean manor house by Sir Basil Brooke in the early 1600s, complete with a carved stone chimneypiece and uneven “trip stairs” designed to slow down attackers. It has been restored and is open to visitors just off the Diamond.
