Ballybunion is a long-established seaside town on the north Kerry coast, about 15km from Listowel, where the Shannon Estuary meets the open Atlantic. Its two main beaches sit either side of a headland riddled with sea caves, and the town has been a holiday destination for generations, once linked to Listowel by the Lartigue, an unusual monorail railway that ran until the 1920s.
