Ballinrobe Racecourse, a mile outside town on the Castlebar road, is the town's best-known attraction: one of only four racecourses in Connacht, it has hosted meetings since 1921 and racing here since the 1770s, and was named Ireland's best racecourse by Horse Racing Ireland as recently as 2023. Nine or ten meetings run through the flat and jumps season each year.
