Staying in Ballisodare

A riverside village just south of Sligo town, built around a waterfall where the Owenmore river crashes into a tidal bay, with Knocknarea on the skyline.

Ballisodare, also spelled Ballysadare, is a small village on the Owenmore river a few kilometres south of Sligo town. The river narrows and drops over the Ballisodare Falls right in the middle of the village before spreading out into the tidal waters of Ballisodare Bay, a setting that has drawn visitors and anglers for a long time; early medieval annals already record the falls as a landmark, and tradition holds that St Columba visited the area in the sixth century.

A B&B in Ballisodare is a quiet, convenient alternative to staying in Sligo town itself, with Sligo’s shops, restaurants and Yeats connections only a short drive away, and Knocknarea, the flat-topped mountain associated with the legendary queen Maeve, visible across the bay.

Things to do near Seashore

Ballisodare Falls

The waterfall at the heart of the village, where the Owenmore river drops through a series of rapids before reaching the tidal bay, is a longstanding draw for anglers, kayakers and anyone after a scenic stop.

Knocknarea

The distinctive flat-topped mountain across the bay is topped with a large, unexcavated cairn traditionally associated with Queen Maeve of Connacht, and is a popular, moderate climb from nearby Sligo.

Sligo town

Just a few kilometres north, Sligo town has its Yeats connections, museums and a lively food and pub scene.

Getting to Ballisodare

Ballisodare is right on the N4, about ten minutes from Sligo town and roughly two hours from both Galway and Dublin by road. Sligo has its own railway station with services to Dublin, and Ireland West Airport Knock is under an hour away.

Booking Seashore direct, and what the rating means

A real, assessed b&b

Seashore holds a 4-star b&b rating under Fáilte Ireland's National Quality Assurance Framework, assessed against the bedrooms, bathrooms, breakfast and welcome rather than self-declared. It's an independent signal you can trust before you book, separate from any platform's own review score.

No fees, no middleman

Ring the owner, or use the contact details on this page, and arrange the stay with the house rather than through an app. No booking fee added to your bill and no commission taken from the owner, so the room rate you agree is the room rate you pay.

A better stay, direct

Owners answer the questions a booking platform never will: whether the room at the front is quieter, how early breakfast can be served, or where to park for a few days. Speaking to the house directly is how B&Bs in Ireland were booked for decades.
