Staying in Gorey

A Georgian market town in north Wexford with 1798 rebellion history at its heart, and the Blue Flag beaches of Courtown just down the road.

Gorey is a market town in north County Wexford, close enough to Dublin, about 90km north, to have grown into a busy commuter town, but with a town centre whose Georgian character sets it apart from Wexford’s older Viking and Norman towns. The name comes from the Irish for "rocky," a nod to the landscape it sits on.

Much of the town as it stands today dates from after 1798, when Gorey was rebuilt following the Wexford Rebellion, and that history is still visible around the Market House and main streets. A B&B in Gorey gives you a comfortable, well-serviced base with shops, pubs and restaurants on the doorstep.

The real draw for a lot of visitors, though, is the coast: Courtown, just ten minutes away, has a Blue Flag beach, a working harbour and family attractions, making Gorey a good split-the-difference base between an inland market town and a seaside break.

Booking Carraig View direct, and what the rating means

A real, assessed b&b

Carraig View holds a 4-star b&b rating under Fáilte Ireland's National Quality Assurance Framework, assessed against the bedrooms, bathrooms, breakfast and welcome rather than self-declared. It's an independent signal you can trust before you book, separate from any platform's own review score.

No fees, no middleman

Ring the owner, or use the contact details on this page, and arrange the stay with the house rather than through an app. No booking fee added to your bill and no commission taken from the owner, so the room rate you agree is the room rate you pay.

A better stay, direct

Owners answer the questions a booking platform never will: whether the room at the front is quieter, how early breakfast can be served, or where to park for a few days. Speaking to the house directly is how B&Bs in Ireland were booked for decades.
